Mark LeDoux, CEO & Chairman, founded Natural Alternatives International in 1980, operating originally from his San Marcos, California home.
NAI opened its first official office and manufacturing facility in San Marcos, California. In addition to private label manufacturing for clients, NAI produced its own product lines.

NAI began trading publicly, on NASDAQ.
On September 9th 1999 NAI had simultaneous Grand Opening celebrations of new manufacturing facilities in Lugano, Switzerland and Vista, California. The Switzerland facility, Natural Alternatives International Europe, accommodates its clients global needs and growth. In October of 1999, NAI issued the first Patent for the CarnoSyn® beta-alanine instant release powder.
In January 2004 NAIE received from Swissmedic (Swiss Health Authorities) the approval for certified compliance with the Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP) for foods, drugs and cosmetics.
In 2006 NAIE had its first major expansion of the packaging area.
NAIE made significant investments to accommodate new growth and provide clients with expanding capabilities. The expansion covers different company areas, from Production areas, Warehouses, Quality Control, R&D to Administration offices. NAIE completed the expansion to about 10000 sqm. On September 19th 2016 NAIE had Grand Opening celebrations of a new 6000 Liter mixer.
NAIE opened a new filling line and a new high speed bottling and pouches lines.
In September 2019 NAIE commemorates its 20 year anniversary and celebrates an expansion of a new warehouse area of about 2100 sqm.
In September 2020 NAIE opened the 2nd 6000 Liter mixer. Now NAIE’s blending capacity exceeds 25 tons over 8 hours in total.
During the pandemic, NAIE achieved record production levels and successfully fulfilled all requests in the high-demand market.
NAIE celebrates 25 years of serving the market with high-quality products. Introduction of “Finished Products Concept” with strategically selected suppliers.
In December, NAIE received the FSSC 22000 certification: a food safety standard based on the ISO 22000 requirements. FSSC (Food Safety System Certification) is recognized by the GFSI (Global Food Safety Initiative) and is trusted internationally.
NAIE installed a new sachet line to enhance our performance and services for customers.
